Hello,

As this school year continues we are still trying new and different
things to help our students achieve their academic goals. Starting in
February we will begin a Sustained Silent Reading program (SSR). This
program will consist of reading for 10 minutes at the start of every
school day in an effort to improve our student's reading abilities.

Research has shown that to keep improving at any skill takes practice.
Reading is a critical skill to continue learning and getting better at.
Our students will not only use reading to be successful in school, but
as you know it will be critical to their success in their daily lives
for many years to come. Our ultimate goals in implementing this program
are to improve their reading abilities, give them opportunities to read
and learn about something they may not have done on their own, and to
hopefully gain a greater appreciation for reading.
